I was today years old when I realized that the bridge crew all had chairs and the transporter operator was expected to stand.

Both were ‘security.’ Makes sense for the cop to have their eyes on the room and not a screen.

Guess that’s the difference between commissioned officers and non-coms. But he’s the transporter chief, just beam in a random chair from somewhere on the ship and program the transporter to automatically put it in the pattern buffer when someone enters the Transporter Room. Just make sure it isn’t The Chair, that might arouse suspicion. 😁

if it was my job I’d optimise it to the point where I store myself in the transporter buffer until someone came in

OR make a transporter clone and alternate shifts

There’s just not enough Guinan to go around! Whenever I fantasize about what my life aboard the Enterprise (NCC-1701-D) would be like, I always picture spending time chatting with Guinan in Ten Forward. I imagine she’d be like the ships matriarch, everyone’s substitute grandma for the duration of the deployment. I can only wonder how many people go to her with problems they’d rather not bring to Counselor Troi! Between the two of them, they probably know more about the goings-on of the ship than either Jean-Luc or Riker.

I remember a line from an English mystery series. The Chief Inspector asks the Sergeant ‘What’s going on that I don’t want to know about?’
