Digital Radio Mondiale enthusiasts: First time?
Probably more. Just search for ‘x’ in a name register and filter the normal ones like Alex.
Yes. Technically, a similar vote could repeal the law just as easily but there is a history of governments not giving their power away easily; implementing it also sets a precedent and creates technical enforcement options for other governments willing to go through with something similar in the future, or for hackers to exploit because gov-rooted devices will remain in operation for years after the potential repeal.

Don’t be that pessimistic, most users had to install Reddit, Twitter and TikTok apps. In the 2010s, grassroots chain emails and Facebook posts with guides to setting up WhatsApp went viral among boomers in my country, touting it as “free SMS”. (Facebook camnot legally describe it as “free SMS” but they didn’t bother correcting anyone of course.) The fediverse experience is already quite OK if you have a dedicated client but the problem is that not everyone does, which is why we need browser support; people are tired of “wOrKs bEtTeR iN ThE aPp” even if it’s true this time. A dedicated URL scheme will automatically associate Fediverse links with any appropriate installed web/local apps. There are still other issues such as hit-and-miss cross-fedi-platform compatibility, no API for retrieving the list of federated instances and lack of appropriate error messages if the source and/or destination instance block each other.
They do, and I like how seamlessly mailto:
links on websites work with web and local apps: your browser will give you a choice and either will work because email servers network with one another (obviously). Perhaps we could do this with linking to content across the Fediverse, with a custom URL scheme such as apub: .com
. I explore this in my other comment at apub:post/20744080/[email protected].
Ironically, the thing that would allow people to use one “twitgramface” account across all the various platforms is federation. But the only way I can imagine it being seamless enough for normies is native browser integration for ActivityPub, perhaps with a new URL scheme like apub://...
. Basically, save a Fediverse account in your browser, and when you open a foreign-instance link someone sends you, you’ll see a prompt:
apub:
)?You can browse this content via your instance and interact with it with one of your saved Fediverse accounts, or choose an app you have installed:

This content is on feddit.nl, which is an ActivityPub instance that 3 of your saved Fediverse accounts federate with. To use your account, open this link via your instance, or select Decline to use feddit.nl’s default web interface.
So far, only browser extensions can do this, and not very well at that. Of course, all ActivityPub instances and clients would need to adopt this URL scheme whenever a link is shared between users, and the downside is that Reddit, Instagram, Twitter etc. will never recognize apub:
links. Do you think something like this can ever happen?
Absolutely hilarious but technocally the term is correct as we have 1 natural satellite.
They just transitioned to Google Wallet, which lacks some features, notably peer-to-peer transactions. The API for virtual banking cards that most banking apps use instead of including their own NFC driver, also called “Google Pay”, will keep working. At least that’s how I understand it.
Cameras are not too great. Ground-station-based radio positioning systems, some of which can be used to enhance GPS precision to centimeters, already exist. (The ground stations, in a mesh tens of kilometers apart, get their position to that precision by averaging GPS over several days.) I’m pretty sure there is already a system on non-GPS frequencies too.
GIMP’s mission statement is 1. be hateful to use
It hurts to say but you’re right. I was like “can’t you remap the right mouse button to another tool? Everything in the context menu is in the Menu bar regardless” and they responded with “nope, design philosophy”
Fantastic Fist is a platforming game focused on simultaneous keyboard and mouse controls. While the character can be moved around with the keyboard, the mouse can be used to interact with the environment by punching with a giant fist.
A puzzle platformer with tight controls and true pixel art, much like Celeste. Makes very good use of the controls available on a PC. Low system requirements (100 MB storage). Solo dev spent years perfecting the gameplay.
I don’t play platformers but I’d like to support the dev (not affiliated). I will gift it to you on Steam if you’re the first to ask for it via DM CLAIMED. As for games I have played, I enjoy little itch.io VNs by npckc, I just wish my devices were fast enough to run Ren’Py decently…
You’re confusing 50% lethal dose (medical property of a substance in relation to the body) with death rate (property of a death cause, obtained statistically from a population at a specific time). This is pure medical data which still may be slightly inaccurate, but you can easily check relevant scientific papers for their estimate of the LD₅₀. I think all values presented here are correct within a factor of 2, unless you find a reputable journal stating a very different result. Each substance is available in different concentrations and humans’ exposure to them also varies. You can get lots of pure water, sugar or gasoline easily but not a gram of viruses. Nobody would voluntarily consume a substantial amount of gasoline but nanograms of viruses come and go in the air all the time.
It is somewhat misleading to group poisons, radioactive isotopes and viruses as they work in very different ways, but the gist is correct. And yes, the LD₅₀ is still a statistical estimate dependent on the humans studied, but not on society etc. like the death rate.
Edit: some substances will be ejected by the body relatively fast (water), some bioaccumulate (heavy metals) and some “biomutiply” (viruses). This is why you haven’t died despite having drunk lots of water.
It also probably works as contraception, TBH
