Sorry, I was just attempting to make a joke, nothing more than that!
Sorry, I was just attempting to make a joke, nothing more than that!
I’ve spent the past decade thinking “surely they won’t get worse than this” and they always do
So, let’s just strengthen that outrage muscle then, huh?
I bet you’re going to tell me you read it somewhere
I understand how it’s procedurally possible to do. But why would everyone accept having the delegates at the convention just vote for some random person that the people didn’t get to vote on themselves? People around here talk about how the 2016 primary was so undemocratic because they had stuff like superdelegates, but at the end of the day the process was actually pretty democratic, unlike choosing someone totally unrelated after the primaries.
To me, Harris is the only one you could just put in place and say this is still the ticket you voted for. Anyone else, I don’t know how you pull it off.
The Republicans really got just what they wanted out of people like you with what they did in Congress with the border. There is a legit crisis down there now. And there was an agreed-to, bipartisan border bill ready to go, and at the last moment Trump said to tank it because it will reflect well on the Democrats. So they tanked it, leaving Biden’s executive branch with very limited options to do anything. So he is doing one of the crappy few things he can do, and people like you just pin it to Biden, which is just what Trump and the GOP hoped for.
I have wondered how it would be possible to change the ticket into anyone else but Harris at this late stage. There is no time to do a new set of primaries. Harris is at least the VP on the ticket and the person whose job it would be to step in for Biden anyway.
How could he just designate some random person and everyone who voted Biden just has to go with it?
It would be up to Congress to make something that couldn’t simply be reversed, but I wouldn’t say now is the time for that since the GOP-controlled House almost certainly wouldn’t pass the bill, even if the Senate did. Biden can only issue executive orders that can be reversed on a whim.
It is crazy when you think about it. Everybody learns about right-wing takeovers of government in history and generally agrees the outcome is pretty horrible, and yet it just happens all over again. I guess fear is a hell of a drug.
I’m not going to pretend that if I were facing jail time and my lawyer said “this is another legal thing that can be done in the hopes of avoiding jail time” that I would say “I broke the law, I should just go to jail and serve my time.” I’d probably do the thing my lawyer said was an option.
What is wrong with you
Like when my kid is finished with his club after school and it’s raining and he’d like me to pick him up. Or he’s at school and realizes he forgot to take his medication. One time his bike was broken and he couldn’t ride it.
I’m glad for you that you never once had a need to call home. I congratulate you. Some people do need to, and I just hope they have a way.
🤷
Do you have any idea how long it took to make any kind of healthcare reform happen when we finally got the ACA? If we just remove it, that’s not going to make everyone “work that much harder to get Medicare for All”, it will set us back arguing over even the things that the ACA got us. Suddenly, denying coverage for pre-existing conditions is back on the table.
And what the hell would Democrats say to the tens of millions of people who lose their health coverage when they vote to repeal the ACA? “Don’t worry, this is going to make things so desperate that we’ll all feel really determined to pass universal healthcare!”
It makes absolutely no sense what you’re saying!
What I’m saying is that the problem is systemic. It’s not stuck because the big parties are just better at blocking other parties than they are in Europe. It’s a consequence of a system that punishes similar candidates. It’s just not possible for everyone to simply decide to vote for more parties in this system, because whichever side has more parties will just lose, lose, lose as the similar candidates cannibalize each other.
It doesn’t mean that a fresh face with little political history would fit that description. The point is that there is no description, so people are able to fill in the blanks with what they imagine, which isn’t going to be the same for everyone.
If you recognize that you’re stuck in a FPTP system, then voting for the least-worst option from the two major parties is the thing that is in your best interests.
“they” = ragebait articles
Wow, that is exactly the opposite expectation and take from me. If young people don’t show up to vote, I expect they’ll blame the DNC instead of themselves, even though the purpose of voting is getting the best outcome for your future and not about liking people or being sold on a brand.
