Xbox: Good, short, sweet, memorable. Xbox 360: Odd, but different name, referring to the console being meant to be used as an all in one media center. Xbox One: Confusing since people were calling the original Xbox the Xbox 1. Xbox Series X: whyyyyy
Playstation: Just increment the number, mate.
Been using LMMS for a while now! I’m sure there’s better options, maybe better free options, but for a small time dork working on electronic stuff, looking to branch into recording a garage band I’m forming, it’s doing me just fine for now.
Been running through the Shaolin Afronauts’ five album suite The Fundamental Nature of Being. If you like jazzy things and wanna step into something new - I’d still recommend Fela Kuti as one’s intro to afrobeat, but the Shaolin Afronauts are damn incredible in their own right and absolutely worth a listen. Here’s the opening song from the first part!
Not always. I’ve been to a couple pumps where none of the buttons did anything. At that point I’m tempted to get a squirt gun to spray into the speakers, hope it does something useful to the speakers.
Oh hey, I forgot about that game’s existence until now. It’s name is so generic I used to accidentally call it Sea of Thieves, cause that’s a more memorable name. Also a more memorable game.
Got ridiculously stoned and saw the Remain In Light tour earlier this year! I might not recall much from the concert itself but I was seriously just living in the moment, vibing hard-core with the music, just crazy to see Adrian Belew’s crazy guitar shit live. In that moment I was truly happy for once.
Mostly nothing.
I’m big on the album experience myself, so I’ll give some good albums to check out with a recommendation for at least one song from each to help ya get a vibe on what to expect.
The Shaolin Afronauts - The Fundamental Nature of Being. They’re an all instrumental afrobeat band, and though the Fundamental Nature of Being is a 5 album suite, it’s all really quite fuckin’ good. Broken Flowers from the first part always sends me soaring when I’m high listening to music.
The Olivia Tremor Control - Music From the Unrealized Film Script, Dusk at Cubist Castle. One of the best, most mind-blowing psychedelic pop records I’ve ever heard, unbelievably good shit. Jumping Fences is a standout track and it hurts that a song that’s that great is just 2 minutes long.
CASIOPEA - Mint Jams. One of the best Japanese jazz fusion bands performing at their peak, and this is a live album. Every song a banger, every riff memorable. Domino Line is SUCH a good, catchy track.
Talking Heads - Remain in Light. My absolute favorite by the Talking Heads. Afrobeat inspired thanks to Brian Eno’s involvement with the band, and fuuuuck me it’s an amazing time. Such a unique blend of songs and tones. Born Under Punches works great as an introduction to the album, but I also love suggesting The Great Curve. That song was written around Adrian Belew (of King Crimson) absolutely belting out the craziest guitar sounds in a couple solos. God, what a guy that guy is.
Speaking of!
King Crimson - I’m pretty much just gonna recommend every one of their 80s albums, as that’s the era of theirs I’m most familiar with. Thela Hun Ginjeet is an incredible guitar heavy song with a real recording of Belew recounting a story of being accosted on the city streets. Neal and Jack and Me from Beat is also a very interesting song, great polyrhythms. Three of a Perfect Pair’s title track is an incredible 7 minute long track full of insanely tight polyrhythms and great vibes.
Himiko Kikuchi - Flying Beagle. One of my favorite Japanese jazz albums. The opening song Look Your Back! is full of great beats and a sweet funky feel, but the title track is just a fantastic jazz song altogether, great piano playing in it. How it feels listening to it.
The Apples in Stereo - Fun Trick Noisemaker. An unexpected throwback to the vibes of the late 60s Beatles and Beach Boys era, straight from the mid-90s. Honestly the whole Elephant 6 thing is god damn interesting in and of itself, but this album is just a good time all around. Glowworn is a proper catchy ear worm.
Herbie Hancock - Man Child. One of the best 70s jazz albums I’ve heard, by one of jazz’s GOATs. Hang Up Your Hang Ups is incredibly funky indeed, with most of the song sitting on a single chord and some incredible solos from Hancock and Bennie Maupin.
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica. Go in blind. I’d recommend the album entirely if you want something new to the palate, but Moonlight in Vermont is the most accessible song from the album, imo.
of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? I’ll admit I’ve not heard the album in full just yet, but Gronlandic Edit is a very catchy song that I relate to ENTIRELY too hard.
Ween - The Mollusk. Certainly an eclectic album from an eclectic band. The title track is a huge part of what inspired me to start getting into making music myself. It’s brief, but has genuinely made me tear up before. This is the same album with Waving My Dick in the Wind.
Frank Zappa - Hot Rats. Zappa’s just great in general, but this one’s a very jazzy album. Willie the Pimp is a long one with a 7 minute long guitar solo by Zappa himself, and it’s insane to think we live in a world where a song that’s this good exists.
TWRP - Together Through Time. These are a buncha funky dudes from the deepest reaches of space. Also the future. Also the 1980s. But they’re especially from Canada. Very funky synth rock, you’ll love them if you like a good funky beat. There’s so many good tracks from this album to pick from, but I’ve always loved the chill vibes of Feels Pretty Good.
Pond - Man It Really Feels Like Space Again. Just a really good full psychedelic album altogether. I’d recommend Waiting For Grace for something that’s fairly accessible (certainly easier listening than Heroic Shart.)
Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over the Sea. One of the biggest albums to come from the Elephant 6 Recording Co. I’m not super into the album musically but Jeff Mangum’s songwriting style is as captivating as it is thought provoking. I quite like the opener, King of Carrot Flowers, but Holland, 1945 is definitely worth checking out too. Also check out Pree Sisters Swallowing a Donkey’s Eye from their previous album On Avery Island. It’s a 13 minute long drone track that sounds like you’re dying, it’s great.
Skinny Puppy - Too Dark Park. Not much an industrial fan myself but the genre has always been captivating to me. Nature’s Revenge has this interesting vibe to it that puts vividly dark images in my head when I listen to the album stoned. Images of like a world in violent collapse.
The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin. Huge recommendation for the whole album, but Waiting For Superman has genuinely saved me from suicide. Just a beautiful, reassuring song.
Just using it as a streaming machine.
He’s just using it for streaming, figured it having a built in screen would help significantly with the limited space in his flat.
Ah, you’re not looking for a discussion, you’re looking for confirmation.
Inb4 all the furries show up wanting to become their fursonas.
Okay I haven’t seen that movie, so I was confused cause I could have sworn you visited many moons in the first Descent game.
Been working on gathering the equipment for a scrappy home studio for music production, practicing vocals where I can, and writing lyrics when inspiration hits!
