I’m ready to weep from this.
Every time any problem comes up, my current manager insists we must use Excel to solve it.

Software suppliers who ship buggy, insecure code
So… all of them?
I’m white. This fucking turd doesn’t speak for me.
I didn’t have the option to have my bank send it in, but I printed a check for each kid each month to cover school lunch costs. I don’t know what it cost them to process the checks, but it wasn’t all that inconvenient for me to do. If there had been a no-cost way to load funds online I would have done it, but it wouldn’t have been much more convenient for me. I’m not going to pay extra to make it easier for them.
Because Trump’s been an idiot all along. With Biden there was a decline, so they could claim he was no longer competent. Trump was never competent, so any decline doesn’t really matter much.
In a functioning society, he would be kept in a safe, healthy environment where he could receive the care he needs and wouldn’t be a danger to himself or others. However, the U.S. offers no alternative for those who need mental care and supervision other than a life on the streets or in politics.
When people ask me why I like Linux, my go-to reason is my main personal machine. I use it for everything I do outside of work, including running my Emby server.
I built it from $500 worth of parts 13 years ago. I’ve kept updating the os and applications. It’s starting to slow down a bit after the last os upgrade, but it’s still plenty usable.
I am getting concerned about the spinning platters. As far as I am aware, Linux won’t prevent an ancient hard disk drive from reaching the natural end of is life.
It’s probably time to move on to a new machine. Well, new motherboard, CPU, RAM, and disks at least.
I can’t think of a time in my Internet life when “Well, duh” was so often the most appropriate response to so many posts.
Been there, done that.
That article gets her age wrong. She was 55. Born July 8, 1969, as confirmed by her sister.
I live in The U.S., so of course I’m not actually familiar with a functional health care system. However almost 50 years ago when I was in elementary school, there were health lessons that taught us kids how to brush and floss.
Regular flossing doesn’t seem to be the kind of thing you should need an X-ray to learn about.
“Tricked” implies that he cares if it’s true or not.
He’s not being tricked any more than Rupert Murdock is tricked by the stories his company promotes.
Yep.
This is the way.
I received some bad screws in a high-end monitor mount for medical diagnostic monitors. The tech who was mounting the monitor didn’t realize, and tried to use gorilla strength to drive the screw in. He broke the head of the screw off.
The monitor in question was a brand new, $13,000 monitor. We needed it, and we couldn’t wait to ship it back to the manufacturer to get the screw removed.
I got the smallest set of screw extractors I could buy, wrapped the monitor in plastic with a hole over the screw. I put a piece of tape over the hole so that everything was sealed with only the screw exposed.
I went very slow and very gentle, vacuuming up any bits of metal shavings before fully removing the screw, but it went fine.
It was quite a butt-puckering operation, but I survived it.
I don’t understand what you’re asking or why.
Only if they can afford to appeal all the way up to the Supreme Court. Then they just have to buy the decision they want.
I think the LLM could be decent at the task of being a fairly dumb personal assistant. An LLM interface to a robot that could go get the mail or get you a cup of coffee would be nice in an “unnecessary luxury” sort of way. Of course, that would eliminate the “unpaid intern to add experience to a resume” jobs. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad,l. I’m also not sure why anyone would want it, since unpaid interns are cheaper and probably more satisfying to abuse.
I can imagine an LLM being useful to simulate social interaction for people who would otherwise be completely alone. For example: elderly, childless people who have already had all their friends die or assholes that no human can stand being around.
Think of the savings if you replace the CEO with an AI!
Raising my children, I got painfully aware of how “lasts” work.
The last time your baby asks you to pick them up. The last time they ask you to take them trick-or-treating. The last time you read a bedtime story.
The one thing that is common to all the lasts is you never know it was the last time until it’s too late. It’s always already a memory. At the time it seemed like every other time so you didn’t even savor it.
What I’m trying to say is, if they manage to usurp the election this time, then 2024 won’t be the last democratic election. The last democratic election would be the previous one.
