I was so disappointed when they introduced the Borg queen. The hive mind concept is so interesting and it suffered greatly afterwards. Just like when in Discovery they moved the interestingly widespread Control into a single body, so that it could be easily dealt with. I see it as lazy writing and not enough fantasy.

I’d argue that gambling doesn’t really have good sides and alcohol is ambivalent at best. We could compare it to other media like TV, that’s perdectly ok. But when it comes to restrictions concerning other media, they are not as strict and act mostly like guidelines for parents.

I think it IS getting out of date. It seems to me the modern approach is to contact the woman in a friendly manner without asking her out on a date, which is mostly a more comfortable situation for both sides and can lead to a date in the future if both sides feel like there’s chemistry there.

I would add that he is not manly only according to those twisted standards. The point is he IS very obviously manly and can therefore reset the toxic standards in people and make them see manliness is compatible with compassion and emotions

I think some of the downvotes might be from people that want it to not be true. I would also like beaten kids to rebel and break the cycle. That doesn’t necessarily mean people don’t understand your point. Some of them have a different experience (they did rebel), some of them agree with you but want the reality to be different and a downvote is a way to express that, and some of them have motivations I can’t even imagine, I guess :)
This feels natural for me. Little children often identify with animals and it can be easier for them to think of children as animals. That’s why they love stories with animal protagonists and that’s why they love Hello Kitty. But it kind of spells out the truth and puts away the magic to say directly she’s a little girl. Maybe it would be better to let her be a girl but to call her a cat.
